Custom software · Pricing · Sovereign · Small business
Search “how much does custom software cost” and you will get a range so wide it is a shrug: five thousand to five hundred thousand. That is not a budget. It is an industry refusing to say which product you are buying.
SINLE Technologies LLC publishes the shapes. Origin from $2,500 is a site you own, not software. Relay is $1,500 a month for hours after something is live. Sovereign is the custom system — a portal, a queue, an agent with a lock — priced in a statement of work. We work with companies worldwide. Billing is USD, Stripe, one LLC on the statement.
The four prices people mix up
No-code and “spreadsheet to app” tools look cheap because you pay monthly and keep the sheet as the database. Fine for one person. Fragile when two people overwrite a column named “status2.”
A scoped custom web app is a project. Most small-business jobs we take — customers, jobs, status, a login, an export — land in the thousands to low tens of thousands, not enterprise theatre. The number is the SOW, not this paragraph.
A junior engineer is a salary, tools, and management. Relay exists because $1,500 a month is about $50 a day against that hire when you need a studio, not a headcount.
An agency “platform” you never own is a fifth price. If leaving means the app dies, you did not buy software. You bought a landlord.
- Under $2,000 all-in for “custom software”: you bought a template or a freelancer who will vanish with the login.
- A first production site you keep: Origin, from $2,500. That is not an app.
- An internal tool or portal: Sovereign. Quote after the job is a sentence, not after a vibe.
What actually moves the quote
Integrations (Stripe, calendar, email). Roles. Whether an agent may draft but not send. Whether you already have the process written down. If the process is still a fight in Slack, we will tell you to spend two weeks in the sheet first. That conversation is free. Building the fight is not.
How to read anyone else’s number
Who is on the invoice. What you own on final payment. When the card is charged. What happens if you cancel. If those four lines are missing, it is a pitch. We will send a written no if the brief is a brochure or an unsupervised chatbot. Clients anywhere can start with one sentence.
The steps — do these in order
- 01
Write the job, not the stack
“Staff enter a job, I approve it, the customer sees status.” If the sentence has five products in it, you do not have a price yet.
- 02
Count roles, not screens
Who logs in. Who may confirm money. Who only reads. Roles are what cost money.
- 03
Decide if you must own the repo
If you cannot leave with the code, you are renting. Price the rent over three years against a project.
- 04
Get a written scope before a card
USD. Milestones. What is out. Typical custom work: 50% to start, 50% on delivery.
- 05
Budget the month after launch
Relay is $1,500 a month if the system still needs a studio. A dead app with no owner is how the sheet comes back.
If this is the work you need, write. You get a written scope, a price in USD, and a site or product you own. Nothing is billed before you approve it.

Web app
When a spreadsheet should become a custom web app
No-code vendors rank for “turn Excel into an app.” Operators need a scoped tool they own — roles, a confirm step, and a kill switch — not another sheet with a skin.
Airtable
Airtable vs a custom web app: when the base should become software you own
Airtable is a better spreadsheet. A custom app is a system of record with roles, a login, and a repo. How to choose without a tool roundup.
SaaS
SaaS MVP development cost: what a first product actually costs
A real MVP is a product a stranger can pay for. It is not a slide, a no-code toy, or a twelve-month platform. How we price the first version in USD.
